Can Psoriasis Cause Weight Gain?

… Continued …

On average, individuals who have psoriasis are about 7 percent heavier than others who don’t have the disease. But not all of them experience overweight or obesity.

Again, the scale of excessive weight can affect the problem, but currently experts can’t say whether it’s clear that psoriasis does have an effect in causing weight gain. Some studies are continuously going for the answer.

Even the answer of how overweight /obesity can affect this skin problem is also not clear yet. However, experts think that one likely link maybe inflammation.

More pounds of excessive weight that you gain can increase the risk of having chronic inflammation, and this can worsen psoriasis.

Furthermore, your body is more likely to produce more cells of fat to respond the increased inflammation – which then eventually can worsen the weight gain problem. And then both problems may affect each other.

Stay close with a well-balanced healthy diet!

Some sufferers claim that their diet is so helpful to make their skin clear. However, in fact there is no specific diet for psoriasis. So what you should do?

Currently, experts only recommend maintaining your diet as healthy as possible. Furthermore, stay away from foods that can worsen the symptoms or can trigger the flare-up!

Additionally, a well-balanced healthy diet is so essential to keep your weight under control. And if you have ideal weight, treatment also can work better. The medications are more likely to not work as well in individuals with overweight.

Regular exercise

Some experts think that regular exercise can be so helpful in the treatment of psoriasis. Like diet, it is the key of the way in controlling the weight.

It also offers other health advantages that eventually can be so useful for your overall health. It can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In fact, people with psoriasis have high heart risks.

Unfortunately – even though many sufferers know the advantages of exercise, but it’s not always easy for them to do exercise regularly.

If you have this skin problem, you are more likely to hide the affected skin, and the use of gym shorts is not your choice. You are also more likely to move less to stay away from the stares of strangers. And becoming a sedentary individual can cause decreased metabolism and obesity.

So generally, people with this chronic condition tend to become less active. This can be another reason of why psoriasis may lead to weight gain.
